The Story of Davina

An Unbreakable Bond

Sita was Jane's first hearing ear service dog. They had an unbreakable bond, and Sita went over the rainbow bridge on January 18, 2022, at age 17. She was with Jane for fourteen of those years. Sita impacted so many people ranging from preschool children for story hours to elderly people in nursing homes. They traveled all over the country doing programs. Jane received Sita from Circletail, an organization that trains service dogs. After Sita passed, Circletail contacted Jane. Sita’s foster mother, Tracy was worried about Jane not having a dog to alert her in the home since Jane cannot hear doorbells, alarms or people entering her apartment. She offered to loan Jane a dog that started in the service dog program but was pulled because of a physical problem. Tracy had adopted this wonderful little dog eight years ago. She said Jane could keep her until they found a public access dog. Jane had Davina for two years and the inevitable happened. She became so attached to Davina she could not bear to give her up. She is now able to keep Davina until she no longer can care for her and Tracy will get her back. Davina's lively, mischievous personality sharply contrasts with Sita's calm and gentle nature, making their dynamic enjoyable. Several local coffee shops and restaurants allow Davina in despite not having the public service dog’s vests and Davina has become a popular local figure with lots of pets and love.

Jane named this website while she had Sita. After Sita passed, she wished to continue the name as a tribute to this wonderful yellow lab who gave so much love to so many.

Do You Have a Voice?

Jane taught Deaf Culture for several years and the students always had many questions about her life and the lives of deaf and hard of hearing people. Most people do not realize deafness is a culture. She felt a calling to write a story about growing up before there were any services for people who were hard of hearing and the American with Disabilities Act which opened doors for people with disabilities. This book was a four-year long venture. Parents of deaf children, people with hearing loss, and Deaf Culture classes can all benefit from reading this nonfiction autobiography covering 50 years with all the changes deaf people face.

She discovered that this series no longer existed and the company was shut down. It had been taken over by Chicken Soup for the Soul. She realized that the company was very large and decided not to submit anything, believing it would never be published. She then decided since the story was already written it would not hurt to try. She was elated when she was contacted many months later that one of her stories was accepted. The title “Not Just Any Dog’ on Sita is now published in the above title. Jane went on a Zoom meeting with the authors and was told this popular series received 5000 submissions for every 101 stories! If she had known that she may never have tried. But she did! Where Am I Now?

A Blog For Today

I honestly made a huge mistake and neglected this website. I hope that you will come back to it. I made a horrible decision and switched companies regretting it very much. Thankfully, Argent took me back and we have completely revised this.

Where am I now? Well – I visited some relatives in Boston over Christmas and collapsed unable to get back up. It was horrible and I did not know if the cancer was worse or something else. I ended up in the emergency room overnight and flew back to Ohio. Many tests were run and a spinal MRI revealed a back with bone spurs, spinal stenosis and two bulging discs. I am now in physical therapy and will begin pain management soon. My goal is to be able to take Davina on walks again.

I am trying to survive this terrible winter and working on my next book. I am writing more articles for Cure and Chicken Soup for the Soul. I still love sports, am enjoying the Olympics and snuggling with Davina. I will keep you all updated. I hope you have enjoyed this new website and remember to email me with any comments or questions at Jane.M.Biehl@Gmail.com
